After reportedly bursting into the home of his ex-partner and threatening her with a machete, a man has been charged with attempted murder.
In Sydney’s north-west, Fraser Thomson, 41, was detained early on Tuesday and charged today with a number of crimes, including breaking and entering and assault with the intent to kill.
He allegedly stormed into Lauren Salamakis’ home, his 35-year-old ex-girlfriend, while carrying a backpack full of weapons, including rope hand restraints and hydrochloric acid, according to the police.
Paul Salamakis, 39, the ex-husband of Mrs. Salamakis, who was staying with her for her safety, was able to drag Thomson to the ground and hold him there until the police arrived.
Police reported that the same knife was used in all of the cuts on both men’s arms, which were treated in hospitals.
The hospital had police protecting Thomson.
The 41-year-old was charged with breaking into a dwelling and assault with the intent to kill, breaking into a dwelling and inflicting GBH, special aggravated breaking into a dwelling and committing severe indictable offence – wound, and violating a prohibition or limitation in an AVO after being released.
He was turned down for bail and has Wednesday’s hearing scheduled.Ms. Salamakis was described by police as “shaken but unharmed.”
Earlier, Superintendent Darren Batchelor said that “some of the parties” involved in the incident had an AVO in place.
