A bizarre accident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Australian snowfields, leaving three individuals hurt.
A “freak gust of wind” that apparently detached “a single chair on Kosciuszko Chairlift” at around 2.20 p.m. caused two girls in their 20s to fall off a ski lift, sustaining back injuries, and one male to sustain face injuries.
Three patients were transported—two by helicopter to Canberra Hospital and one by ground to Cooma Health Service.
In a statement released on Saturday, the resort added, “Thredbo can confirm there was an isolated incident.”
“No other visitors or seats were harmed. Thredbo is dedicated to keeping its employees and visitors safe.
“SafeWork NSW and an independent engineer are presently conducting a full investigation into the occurrence. Thredbo promises visitors that their safety is of utmost importance and that we will keep up our strict standards of safety and risk control.
The Kosciuszko Chairlift, which is 33 years old and approximately two km long, is the longest chairlift in Australia.
In 1990, the four-seater lift took the place of the previous double chair, and mountain bikers, hikers, and skiers utilize it all year long.
Given how close the line is to the ground at the top station, it is thought that the event may have happened there.
