Off the coast of New South Wales, a runaway boat that was thought to be missing after it injured two men when it ran over them has been found.
After being discovered by a fisherman yesterday morning on the Mid North Coast, four nautical miles east of Manning Point, Marine Rescue NSW reported today that a volunteer crew had recovered the vessel.
After repeated sightings of the runaway boat, Inspector Rodney Page said Marine Rescue NSW volunteers had been vigilant for it.
A line was hooked to the struggling boat, and the fisherman stayed with it until the crew arrived before towing it back to land.
He said that it suffered significant damage.
Recovering this boat is a terrific result because it not only eliminates a navigational risk but also ensures that the owner will get their boat back, according to Page.
“Vessels that are usually left to drift are never seen again.”
When the runaway boat departed unattended on August 1 in the surf zone at Queens Head, north of Port Macquarie, the search for it officially began.
The ship ran over the two men, who were hurt and thrown overboard.
The boat is anticipated to be given back to its owner by NSW Police.
