A judge has been informed that the former cycling boss Ricky Ciano’s widow was not informed of his interactions with the Rebels prior to his suspected murder.
On Monday, Rachel Ciano testified in her husband’s murder case before Sydney’s Darlinghurst Supreme Court.
Both John Tozer, 38, and Daniel Bushell, 49, have entered not-guilty pleas in relation to the 2017 slaying of Ciano.
According to testimony given in court, Ms. Ciano’s bikie husband was aware that her father was a senior member of the Queensland Police Force.
When her husband passed away, Ms. Ciano, who was three months pregnant, said she felt he had the money to support their way of life, which included spending about $20,000 per month on food and clothing and planning a planned shopping trip to Dubai.
“Ricky paid for everything,” Ms. Ciano remarked in court.
Avni Djemal, the attorney for Tozer, questioned Ms. Ciano about the couple’s source of money since neither of them had a regular employment.
My assumption was that unlawful operations accounted for the majority of the income, Ms. Ciano stated.
The court was informed that Mr. Ciano was elected president of the Gold Coast Rebels while the couple was still dating, despite Ms. Ciano’s denials to the contrary.
She acknowledged knowing about the $39,500 hidden at their Gold Coast residence.
It was taken by police in 2014 together with a set of scales that had cocaine traces on them.
If Ms. Ciano was okay with being “in the dark” about her husband’s actions, Mr. Djemal questioned her.
“Yes,” she answered.
Investigations into Mr. Ciano’s past drug use revealed that he had once been a frequent user of painkillers and steroids.
I’ve witnessed him using steroids previously. According to Ms. Ciano, he would inject medicine into his butt.
I was aware that he had consumed cocaine, MDMA, or some other substance at a festival.
She testified in court that he stopped using steroids before the pair started IVF for both health and fertility concerns.
Prior to 2017, Ms. Ciano said that her spouse had utilized steroids for years.
She also revealed to authorities that he had once been using Targin tablets, a brand name for the powerful opioid oxycodone, about once per day.
