A rare blood type that is required to save the life of an Australian mother of two has partially been found in donors.
Lifeblood issued a request for donations earlier this week to locate a blood type that is so uncommon that only one in 10,000 people may be a match.
Amira, a woman from Adelaide, is about to have urgent and life-saving open heart surgery, thus the blood would be used for her.
Three appropriate donors have been found since the request for volunteers.
Queensland, South Australia, and Victoria are the countries of the donors.
According to a statement from Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, the three donors only covered around a third of Amira’s needs.
“Amira might be a match for someone with an A+, A-, O+, or O grade. In order to find more matches, we thank everyone who has donated thus far and ask the community to keep giving blood.
According to Lifeblood, appointments for blood donations increased by 20% on Thursday across the nation, more than doubling in South Australia.
90 new donors donned their gloves at the Regent Donor Centre in Adelaide.
According to Lifeblood, blood donors should continue give even if they are unsure of their blood type to determine if they might be a match.
