In the nearly four-month-long investigation into Sydney woman Erin Gilbert’s death, police have finally made a significant development.
Gilbert, 42, was allegedly stabbed to death and discovered dead inside her Merrylands apartment block in April.
It’s a bittersweet time for her husband, who was previously the main suspect, to learn that police have a person of interest and that charges are likely. Mark News can exclusively divulge this information.
Three years prior to her passing, Gilbert and Nic had been happily married and much in love.
The dream of having children together in the future was anticipated, but it was dashed when Gilbert was supposedly murdered in her flat.
Mr Gilbert first came under investigation as a suspect after discovering her blundered in the flat and calling for help.
Mr. Gilbert acknowledged that he was initially the main suspect in the death of his wife, but that two days later, he was freed without being charged.
According to Mark News, Morten Jensen, Mr. Gilbert’s closest friend, is now a person of interest for the police.
He was to me like a brother, and I trusted him with Erin, according to Mr. Gilbert.
On the evening of Gilbert’s passing, Mr. Gilbert says he spoke with Jensen and that she was attempting to call him.
Despite repeated calls and texts in the days following Gilbert’s death, Mr. Gilbert said he never heard from his friend.
He was supposed to be my greatest friend, so Mr. Gilbert found it odd that he wasn’t coming to visit him. “He just disappeared,” he added.
Two weeks after Gilbert’s passing, Mr. Gilbert was arrested on other charges and was instead put to prison.
A key piece of evidence that was used in the police inquiry was a video showing a man rushing away from the crime site on a motorised bicycle in the moments following Ms. Gilbert’s death.
The man on the bicycle, according to the police, is Jensen.
In the upcoming days, investigators from the Gilbert murder inquiry will make their way to his detention cell at Silverwater.
Mark News simply indicates that Jensen is a person of interest, not that he is guilty of any crime in relation to Gilbert’s suspected murder.
Although Mr. Gilbert is happy to have been exonerated of any suspicion, he is not celebrating the loss of his wife or his close friend at this time.
