An overnight siege has come to an end after a man who was wanted by the police was discovered dead at a residence in western New South Wales this morning.
According to police, a woman and an armed male were reportedly fighting in a property in Bowenfels, Lithgow, yesterday.
The two were “abusive to police” when cops arrived at the residence, according to acting assistant commissioner Scott Tanner.
The two entered the house, closed the doors, and refused to come out as officers tried to reason with the man from a distance.
Specialised police were sent, including the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU) and negotiators, and a perimeter was set up.
At around 4:20 p.m., bullets were fired from the house at the police, who responded by opening fire, according to the police.
According to authorities, nobody was hurt during the exchange.
Even though negotiations went on all night, the two would not leave the room.
When the woman approached the officers by herself this morning, the circumstance altered. The 20-year-old lady emerged from the property just before 8:50 am on this day (Monday, July 17, 2023), according to a statement from NSW Police.
According to Tanner, the woman emerged on her own, carrying what is thought to be a 0.22 calibre gun, and turned herself in to the police.
He stated that she was being evaluated in the hospital. The man was discovered by police inside the house with what is thought to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Although he hasn’t been officially named, authorities say they think he’s 29 years old.
For “some serious matters that dated back to 2021,” Tanner claimed the individual was wanted by the police.
These included those involving domestic violence and those involving guns.
A Critical occurrence inquiry Team from the Orana Mid Western Police District has started an inquiry into all the circumstances surrounding the occurrence, according to the authorities.
The woman is aiding the authorities with their investigations.
