After a four-hour siege in Adelaide’s northeast, a man has been charged with murder for allegedly killing a lady in the process.
Following a “high-risk” operation that started on Campbelltown’s Elm Street at around 1.20pm local time and ended shortly before 6pm (6.30pm AEST), the 51-year-old man accused of the attack surrendered himself to police.
People allegedly heard gunshots and saw “two women collapsed on the driveway of a home” before calling the police to the site.
South Australia Police stated in a statement that when patrols arrived, they discovered a lady who had already died at the site and another woman, 22, who had suffered serious injuries.
The hurt woman was successfully extricated and sent to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where she is currently being treated for her injuries.
As STAR Group officers responded to reports of an armed guy still inside the property, patrols erected cordons around it and the nearby streets.
“The man was taken into custody without further incident after protracted negotiations.”
Charges of attempted murder and murder have been brought against a 51-year-old Campbelltown man.
He will appear tomorrow in Adelaide Magistrates Court and did not request bail.
The male and the woman were acquainted, according to the police.
The residence of the perpetrator is currently being searched by detectives, and they hope to find several firearms there.
