Police think a strange fire that damaged a gym in southeast Melbourne was intentional.
Investigative teams from the Arson and Explosive Squad, Echo Taskforce, and VIPER are looking into whether the event is related to a string of fires that have been linked to organised crime organisations and outlaw motorcycle gangs.
After receiving many complaints reporting a structural fire at 3.45 in the morning, firefighters were dispatched to the Fighters Xpress gym in Dandenong.
When rescuers got on the site, the gym was completely engulfed in flames, according to a Fire Rescue Victoria representative.
The fire has been put out, and Victoria Police has been informed of the situation.
Shortly after 3.30 a.m., an automobile was used to smash through the gym’s front door, according to a Victoria Police spokesperson.
The representative claimed that the perpetrators doused the building in accelerant before lighting it on fire and escaping.
“Shortly after, emergency services received a call about a suspected-related vehicle fire on Canberra Avenue in Dandenong.”
The structure was described as being “quite severely damaged” by FRV Paul Foster.
“The stability of the building has been jeopardised. Before it spread to other nearby buildings, we were able to put out the fire, the man claimed.
Suspicious activity has been found in the fire.
