Four persons who were discovered in a van that was allegedly taken in an aggravated burglary in Melbourne’s north earlier this week have been arrested as a result of a live-radio tip-off.
The owner of a chauffeur service, Peter, spoke with Neil Mitchell of 3AW this morning regarding a Mercedes van that was allegedly taken from his employee’s Glenroy house on Monday.
A man called in shortly after providing more information about the van’s characteristics to report seeing it in the CBD.
The caller Xavier stated, “We have seen the Mercedes.”
It simply made a U-turn in front of us and was moving in the direction of Finders Street.
About 12.40 p.m. today, police received the tip and detained three men and a woman on Little Collins Street.
According to a police spokeswoman, the finding of the criminals and van was made possible by ongoing efforts by police to trace the car with the help of the owner, as well as coverage in the media this morning and safe city camera operators.
All four are actively supporting the police in their investigations.
