Two men were shot in broad daylight at a hair shop in Sydney’s Inner West, and are now recovering in the hospital. Police are looking into any gangland crime connections.
According to witnesses, a “cool, calm, collected” gunman opened fire on the males, ages 33 and 20, inside Adel’s Salon on Marrickville Road in Marrickville just before 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
The 33-year-old was shot in the buttocks, and the 20-year-old was wounded in the chest as they were being brought to the hospital.
Both men’s conditions are currently stable as of this morning.
Police knew both males, according to Superintendent Despa Fitzgerald, and they believe the “brazen” attack was premeditated.
It’s not arbitrary, she said.
Police are looking into whether this incident is connected to the recent murder of Alen Moradian, a high-ranking Comanchero bikie gang member who was shot dead in a Bondi Junction parking lot.
According to NSW police officer Peter Moroney, authorities are probably looking into connections to other illegal motorbike gangs.
There are some claims that they may be associated with another motorbike gang, possibly the Bandidos, he claimed.
If that’s the case, the Father’s Day slaughter from years past comes to mind when we consider the shooting from two weeks ago and its connections to the Comancheros.
He claimed that the shooter was probably waiting outside the barbershop.
“The simple fact that they were aware that the two victims were inside the barbershop does give you some indication that either they were being watched or that they knew that’s where they were going to be,” he added.
Shortly after the incident, two car fires were put out in Sydenham using a silver Kia Stinger that was thought to be the getaway vehicle.
In Dulwich Hill, where police suspect a third “getaway car” fled yesterday afternoon, a Mitsubishi Triton was discovered on fire.
Police were looking for the white Toyota Camry with the licence plate DMM59H that was spotted driving away from the Dulwich Hill car fire.
The Marrickville neighbourhood was on edge following the daytime gunshot, which took place during the school break on a busy street barely 100 metres from the police station.
Before the police descended upon the strip, witnesses claimed to have heard up to seven gunshots.
One resident recalled, “When I first heard the noise, I didn’t think anything bad had happened because there were still mothers walking along with prams.”
The alleged shooter was also seen by witnesses “cool, calm, and collected” as he left the hair salon.
They claimed that everything “just seemed normal.”
