Newcastle Local Court has denied bail to a man accused of more than 20 offences, including domestic abuse, kidnapping, and eluding police.
Friday saw the arrest of Kirt Field. Since March, police have been looking for the 37-year-old Maitland resident.
He is charged with abducting, assaulting, and holding a woman against her will.
In addition, Mr Field is charged with assaulting officers and hitting two police vehicles after a chase.
There are 23 charges in total against him.
Mr. Field would like to seek additional legal counsel to refute the allegations, according to his attorney Saeed Saadie.
According to Mr. Saadie, his client used cannabis and ice to self-medicate for a “complex mental health issue” and was also homeless.
Josh McIlveen, the prosecutor, argued against the bail request.
He stated that there were “concerns about him leaving the state” as well as “concerns for the community’s safety.”
The case will be heard in Maitland court again on Monday because bail was rejected.
