As Australia looks to strengthen its response to the escalating threat in that area, a long-serving Air Force chief will assume a new position tasked with defending the nation from cyberthreats.
According to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Air Marshal Darren Goldie, who has been acting as Air Commander Australia, will take on the new role of National Cyber Security Coordinator.
The coordinator will oversee national cybersecurity strategy, response coordination to significant cyber attacks, efforts to prepare the entire government for cyber incidents, and the development of Commonwealth cybersecurity capability.
According to Albanese, “We see this as a crucial part of what modern government needs to do to address what our new and emerging challenges are that are there, but also the incredible opportunities that come from advances in new technology.”
It is “a very substantial and seriously growing challenge” for Australia, according to Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil.
On July 3 of this year, Goldie will start in his new position.

And I’m eager to take on this new responsibility.
