The long-awaited conclusions of an anti-corruption watchdog regarding former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian will be released next week.
Next Thursday at 9am, the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) report, which has been in the works for two and a half years, will be made public.
“The NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) will furnish its Operation Keppel investigation report, concerning the then-member of Parliament for Wagga Wagga, the then-premier, and others, to the Presiding Officers at the NSW Parliament on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 9am,” the ICAC said in a statement today.
Berejiklian’s connection with former Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire was a secret, and the ICAC investigation looked at whether or not she had violated the public’s trust during that time.
During interrogation during the ICAC proceedings, the relationship was for the first time made known to the public.
Following the shocking revelation that she was being investigated, Berejiklian abruptly announced her retirement as premier in October 2021.
She has vehemently refuted all accusations.
Maguire was forced to resign from the NSW parliament in July 2018 after a corruption investigation looked into his real estate dealings.
The report’s release was postponed twice owing to “complex matters of law and fact,” once in October of last year and again in January.
Two public inquiries, 30 days of hearings, more than 2800 pages of transcripts, 516 exhibits totaling 10,600 pages, and 957 pages of submissions later, conclusions have been reached.
