After being shot by police at a residence in Bray Park, north of Brisbane, a man is still in the hospital.
After police were summoned to the home in Burkwell Court at around 12.30 p.m. on Monday following reports of a domestic incident between a man and a woman, Bret James, 45, was shot numerous times.
James allegedly tried to stab the police, but officers only used the bare minimum of force.
The man allegedly confronted police outside the residence, according to Detective Superintendent Ben Fadian.
According to preliminary evidence, officers felt endangered to the point where they had to use force to control the scene, according to Fadian.
James was injured by gunfire and rushed to the hospital.
On Tuesday morning, he was still critical but stable.
At the time of the incident, according to Fadian, there were people living at the address.
He stated that the victim of the shooting resided in Burkwell Court.
In terms of that person’s [reported] behavior and activities, “the circumstances of today’s incident may form part of a further investigation down the road,” Fadian added.
Lyn, a neighbor, reported hearing three distinct gunfire at 12:42 p.m.
“I heard it, three very quick gunshots – bang, bang, bang,” she remarked.
The Crime and Corruption Commission will supervise the investigation by the Ethical Standards Command.
