A diver who had been reported missing off the southern coast of New South Wales was safely located after spending the night on rocks.
The 64-year-old spear fisherman was discovered by volunteers on board Marine Rescue NSW this morning off Lennards Island near Eden.
When the man failed to return to land after entering the ocean yesterday at about 3:15 p.m., he was originally reported missing.
The crew from Marine Rescue NSW picked up the search again around 8 a.m. this morning after it was suspended at 5.40 p.m. yesterday owing to bad lighting.
During the multi-agency search, the NSW Water Police, rescue aircraft, and the Marine Rescue NSW vessels XRAY 30 and Merimbula 31 were also utilized.
Inspector Glenn Sullivan of Marine Rescue NSW described it as a fantastic outcome.
The search, which started yesterday afternoon, “was an amazing effort from all rescuers involved,” he said.
About 478 kilometers south of Sydney, in the South Coast region of New South Wales, is the town of Eden.
