In a speech tonight intended to increase support for the Voice to Parliament, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will push Australians to “do one better.”
In his speech this evening in Adelaide, Albanese plans to bring up the 1967 referendum while pushing Australians to move closer to amity.
90% of voters approved changing the Constitution in the 1967 referendum to include Indigenous people in the total population.
Out of the 44 referendums that have been approved by Parliament since Federation, eight have been successful.
In addition, Albanese will deny suggestions that the Voice will ethnically split Australia and advise against fear tactics.
The Voice is anticipated to make another significant advancement this week. The Voice was a first-term promise Albanese took to the 2022 federal election as opposition leader.
By the end of June, the Senate will receive the referendum measure once the House of Representatives approves it.
The referendum’s actual date has not yet been determined.
Between October and December is when it is anticipated to happen.
The referendum question’s phrasing and the guidelines for building the Voice itself were made public earlier this year.
