After a man was fatally shot by police, a significant crime scene has been declared at a Queensland residence.
Following claims that he was attempting to stab his father with a knife, police were called to the Grange address.
Police, detectives, and emergency personnel gathered close to the residence where the 29-year-old First Nations man was killed by police shooting.
According to Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham, an officer fired three bullets after the guy “lunged at police with what we believe to be a knife.”
Following triple zero calls reporting the 29-year-old was attempting to stab his father, officers arrived at the Days Road residence after 2.15pm this afternoon.
According to Massingham, “when they got there they saw that a man had actually been stabbed in the left hand, it was quite a deep laceration and he also suffered an injury to his left shoulder.”
The 50-year-old male is currently receiving treatment at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and is doing well.
As detectives concentrated on the location underneath the house where the incident took place, evidence markers are still scattered across the driveway.
The man’s mother was among the family members who were in mourning outside on the street.
“They killed him. My son was shot,” the woman claimed.
Nearby residents expressed their horror after the tragedy.
According to Grant Brosnan, a neighbour, “we heard four shots that were evenly spaced apart, so we went outside just to have a look to see if we needed to call triple zero and there’s already police at the address two houses down.”
Unaware of where the rounds were coming from, those inside a nearby barbershop dove for cover.
One customer remarked, “Of course it’s scary, yeah, it’s really scary.”
According to preliminary inquiries, no Taser was used during the exchange.
According to the police, a pitchfork was also taken from the house’s backyard.
The Ethical Standards Command will inquire about the involved officers.
The probe, which will be supervised by the Crime and Corruption Commission, will include reviewing video from body-worn cameras.
