Curtis Pitt, the speaker of the Queensland House of Assembly, has announced that he will take time off to treat his mental health after missing this week’s historic session of the state legislature in his hometown of Cairns due to sickness.
“A number of things in my life have come together at this time. He stated in a statement, “I’m not doing as well emotionally as I’ve made out to anyone.
“A protracted divorce after more than two decades of marriage, ulcerative colitis as an underlying medical condition, experiencing depression, and needing regular back medicine, for which I will soon undergo surgery.
“My work over five terms as an MP, a regional Minister, and as Speaker have taken a toll. My elderly parents both have serious health issues.”
The Mulgrave state representative, who is 46, said his time off will start on Tuesday once he resolved some issues with his office. Mulgrave is in the state’s Far North.
I’ve decided that I need to take some time off for my mental health to improve so that I can do my job as effectively as possible, he stated.
“I owe that to my electorate, the parliament, and my colleagues.”
