A guy is accused of killing a 51-year-old man by ‘chance’ stabbing at a Cairns shopping centre.
Just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Cairns Central Shopping Centre received a call from the police reporting a male on the ground level with “blood everywhere” and fatal throat wounds.
Police spotted and detained a 38-year-old nearby who they have not yet identified.
He was afterwards accused of murder.
Initial inquiries, according to Detective Inspector Kevin Goan, seemed to indicate that the two males did not appear to be acquainted.
According to the facts we now have, it seems to have been an accident, he stated.
“As you could expect from a stabbing, there is a lot of blood all over.
That’s pretty much all I can say right now.
The accused will show up in court today in Cairns.
According to Insp. Goan, the victim was regarded as a “nice gentleman” by other patrons of the mall.
“He has dealt with owners within the centre in a very positive manner,” he said.
“He is described as a fairly laid back, easygoing, nice gentleman who readily engages with others.”
