Late yesterday night, a teenage girl who was trapped under a tram in Sydney’s central business district perished.
Just after midnight, there were reports of a girl being caught under a light rail tram, prompting emergency personnel to be dispatched to George Street in Haymarket.
The 16-year-old was released by police and fire personnel, and paramedics treated her for serious injuries until she passed away on the site.
The 52-year-old tram driver was brought to the hospital for necessary testing.
The incident’s cause is being investigated by police at this time.
Police stated that they will “prepare a report for the Coroner’s information.”
Due to the incident, none of the light rail trains between Central and Circular Quay are operating, according to a statement from Transport for NSW this morning.
