After serving in the House of Representatives for 16 years, coalition front-runner Stuart Robert will resign from office in the upcoming weeks.
In order to spend more time with his family, Robert declared he was quitting politics.
The shadow minister for financial services and assistant treasurer bemoaned how the legislature had evolved during his tenure in office.
“I sincerely hope that politeness ultimately spreads to the political theatre. However, I worry that the current Parliament is deeply divided,” Robert added in his statement.
It’s not “a kinder, gentler Parliament.”
As a minister in the previous administration, Robert had a difficult time and bore the brunt of the robodebt scandal.
He also received criticism for running up a $38,000 tax-payer-funded bill for home internet expenses.

He has my full backing to take it up with the Labour Government and keep them accountable while also offering Australians a different option that operates in their best interests—not for popularity or social media, simply a good decent custodian of government.
In his remarks, he bragged about the cash he had secured for numerous projects in his Gold Coast electorate.
Serving as the Minister of Veteran Affairs, according to him, was the greatest honour of his career.
He also mentioned his experience serving as Minister for Building Services Australia and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
He was regarded as one of Scott Morrison’s closest confidants in the background.
