During a “high-risk” event in rural South Australia, a man was shot dead and two police officers were stabbed.
Around 10.15am today, the officers were on their way to a home on Symons Street in Crystal Brook, about 200 kilometers north of Adelaide, when they allegedly came under attack from the resident.
The individual, according to police, stabbed the two cops before being shot by officers, who declared him dead at the spot.
A police officer from the neighboring Port Germein was flown in seriously injured but stable to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
The Crystal Brook-based second police officer was transferred to Port Pirie Hospital before being flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical but stable condition.
According to the police, the officers initially went to the residence to “make inquiries regarding another matter.”
In Crystal Brook, two police officers have been stabbed.
Mark Carroll, president and CEO of the SA Police Association, stated that one officer was in “a very bad way” following the assault.
Carroll remarked, “It’s a tragedy for everybody.”
We have severe concerns about our members who suffered serious injuries today.
Carroll stated that the group was offering assistance to the officers’ families.
He stated that it was “a horrifying reminder of the levels of extreme violence frontline police officers face while on duty.”
Police Commissioner Grant Stevens reportedly briefed Premier Peter Malinauskas about the event.
The two hurt officers and their families are in his thoughts, he said.
“We will always be grateful to our police for putting their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.”
At the scene of the incident are still major crime investigators, forensic teams, and the Internal Investigation Section.
