Following a fatal three-car collision in Queensland overnight that claimed the lives of three people, a 13-year-old boy has been charged with dangerous driving.
Around 10:45 on Sunday night in Maryborough, according to police, a stolen Mercedes-Benz allegedly collided with the back of a Holden on Saltwater Creek Road near Sydney Street.
The Mazda was headed toward Hervey Bay when the Holden struck it.
A Maryborough woman, 29, and a 17-year-old Oakhurst girl passenger in the Holden perished at the scene.
Emergency personnel also confirmed the death of the Mazda’s driver, a 52-year-old Torquay lady.
A Tinana woman, age 23, who was the third passenger in the Holden, was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where she is now in critical condition.
The 13-year-old boy’s foot had minor wounds.
The Mercedes-Benz’s passenger may have also fled the scene on foot, although police are still trying to confirm this.
It will be claimed that the car was taken two hours before to the deadly incident involving the three vehicles from a Maryborough home.
Three counts of unsafe motor vehicle operation resulting in death and one count of illegal motor vehicle usage have been brought against the Bundaberg youngster.
At a later time, the 13-year-old kid will appear before Maroochydore Children’s Court.
During a press conference with Anthony Albanese, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk expressed her sincere condolences to the families of the victims.
The phone calls she receives about catastrophes that occur in our state are possibly some of the hardest ones in her role as premier, she added.
“I know that the police are getting in touch with relatives. I must emphasize to Queenslanders that this is a terrible tragedy that has no business happening.
Police are requesting anyone with dash cam footage who was on the roadways in the vicinity of Maryborough and Hervey Bay at the time to come forward.
