After allegedly sexually and physically assaulting two young women while they were out and about in Goulburn, a suburb of Sydney, earlier this month, a man has been denied bail.
During the course of the police investigation into the alleged assaults of two adolescents in Goulburn earlier in April, Nathan Raymond Caldow, 41, was extradited from Western Australia.
According to court documents obtained by AAP, Caldow is accused of assaulting a 19-year-old woman, molesting and strangling her before snatching her phone, as well as her bra and knickers, around 11 p.m. on April 14 on Bourke Street.
Police will claim that Caldow “inflicted actual bodily harm with the intent to have sexual intercourse with the woman” in court, according to Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty.
According to Doherty, “Police will also allege that the woman regained consciousness and fled from the scene to nearby houses to seek assistance.”
She was taken here to the Goulburn Police Station after being picked up by a passing car.
Doherty claims that a connection was made to another alleged assault in which an 18-year-old lady was repeatedly hit in the face on Bradshaw Drive in Goulburn on April 5 and was knocked to the ground.
When the woman was able to stand up and leave the area, “police will allege he continued to assault the woman.”
After assaulting her on April 5, Caldow allegedly stole her bank card, identification, phone, and jacket.
For their wounds, both women needed hospital treatment.
As investigators obtained a warrant to investigate Caldow’s home at the weekend, the NSW Police sex crimes squad commander Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty told the media in Goulburn on Thursday afternoon that community appeals had prompted more information from the public.
Caldow was detained on Sunday night at a Fremantle motel, and on Wednesday, NSW detectives were granted his extradition.
He is accused of aggravated robbery, actual bodily harm with the intent to engage in sexual activity, unwanted sexual contact, stalking/intimidation, and choking.
When Caldow’s case was briefly discussed in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, he was not there.
Caldow has a private solicitor to represent him, and a lawyer on his behalf requested that the case be transferred to Goulburn, where the alleged offences allegedly took place.
On May 3, Magistrate Greg Grogin ordered a brief of evidence to be served by June 22 and adjourned the matter to Goulburn.
