Police are looking into the cause of an overnight fire that destroyed a portion of a school in Adelaide’s north, leaving the instructors “devastated.”
Eight classrooms at John Hartley School in Smithfield Plains, which house more than 180 students, were “completely destroyed” in the fire, according to the school, and some kids were left without anywhere to go after the Easter break.
The fire started at 9.40 p.m. on Easter Sunday and caused an estimated $1 million in damage.
The school posted on Facebook that “unfortunately, the building has been severely damaged, and staff and student items could not be salvaged.”
“Our staff, all of our students, and the entire school community are devastated,” the statement reads.
Police are pleading anyone anyone who seen anything suspicious to contact them.
According to authorities, “the fire is being treated as suspicious, and investigations are ongoing.”
