Legendary Sydney radio host Doug Mulray passed away at the age of 71.
Mulray passed away yesterday, according to the radio station Triple M Sydney and a number of his pals.
Mulray started his radio career in regional New South Wales before becoming well-known on the ABC’s Double J in the late 1970s.
Throughout the 1980s, he commanded the FM airwaves on Sydney’s Triple M breakfast show, concluding his final program in 1992 with the phrase “I’ll cop you later.”
Grant Blackley, the chief executive of Southern Cross Australia, paid tribute to “Uncle Doug,” whom he characterized as a well-known figure on Triple M.

He described him as “radio royalty” and “an incredible legend.”
“Thank you Dougie for keeping us entertained and making sure we never took life too seriously,” someone said of the man with a strong viewpoint, intelligence, and cheek.
Along with hosting radio programmes on 2WS and 2SM, he also served as presenter of a number of television programs, including Beauty and the Beast, Star Struck, and the Doug Mulray Show, where he frequently laughed off critics’ criticism.
“Mulray is Hulkitudinally challenged by the way,” the Australian’s Sue Williams (said), “I know my audience, that means ugly,” he remarked.
He is non-threatening because he lacks the typical attractive looks, she said.
After only 33 minutes of anchoring a new television program called Australia’s Naughtiest Home Videos, Kerry Packer, the head of Channel 9, famously fired him on air.
Mulray collaborated with media figures including Andrew Denton and Peter FitzSimons and was inducted into the Commercial Radio Hall of Fame at the 2019 Australian Commercial Radio Awards.
At the middle of the 1980s, Mulray employed Denton as a writer and gave him the moniker “Andrew the Boy Wonder From Indoor Cricket.”
Mulray was referred to be the “real original” and called a Berocca if the world were a glass of water.
According to Mr. Denton of ABC Radio Sydney, “It was an incendiary beautiful cartwheel of a working relationship.”
On and off air, it was incredibly surprising and hilariously amusing.
He cherished regulations, and he cherished the whistling sound they made as they passed, to quote Douglas Adams.
On social media, FitzSimons paid tribute to his co-host.
He described the late radio personality as “an iconic radio man, whose unique gift was to be enormously amusing when right on the brink and never blinked.”

Mulray dominated Sydney radio for a long period, according to Triple M Sydney anchor Mick Molloy, and many in the business were indebted to him for opening doors.
“This morning is awful. In especially in Sydney, where Doug Mulray governed since 1982, a vast gaping vacuum has been left in the FM radio scene, he said.
He was a renowned radio entertainer, and he was the guy. He was regarded as the largest star in the firmament for anyone in comedy, especially someone entering radio.
