Anthony Albanese will fly to London to witness King Charles III’s coronation.
Governor General David Hurley, the King’s representative in Australia, will attend the May 6 event with the prime minister.
He added that a number of “exceptional citizens” as well as a “substantial” number of Indigenous Australians had been requested by the palace to attend the historic event.
“A number of other outstanding Australians, the majority of whom are based in the United Kingdom, have been chosen to demonstrate the world the finest of our principles — caring for others, helping the community, and promoting progress,” Mr. Albanese said in a statement to the parliament on Thursday.
And I saw that the palace has requested that there be a sizable presence of Indigenous Australians for the coronation.
Albanese stated that a recipient of the Victoria Cross and the Cross of Valor, as well as a representative of the Australia Defence Force, will attend, providing the only indication of who the other attendees may be.
Also present will be state governors.
In September 2022, Albanese attended the burial of Queen Elizabeth II and got to know the King.
A meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and a visit to a shipyard where submarines purchased under a recent AUKUS contract will be manufactured are also included in the trip in May.
