Following her attendance at an anti-trans rally that was commandeered by neo-Nazis, MP Moira Deeming will be targeted for expulsion by the head of the Victorian Liberal Party in a vote this morning.
At the 10 a.m. meeting of the Liberal Party at Parliament House, leader John Pesutto is sure he will have the support needed to unseat Deeming.
Deeming, who made a last-minute email request for her coworkers to back her, will need at least 16 of the 31 members in the Liberal Party room to support his motion to expel her.
The purpose of Pesutto’s motion, which was made public on Tuesday, is to expel Deeming from the party room of the parliamentary chamber for organizing, publicizing, and attending a protest against transgender rights that featured a prominent activist “known to be publicly associated with far-right extremist groups.”
Deeming spoke on March 20 outside the Victorian parliament in Melbourne’s central business district at the Let Women Speak gathering organised by British anti-transgender campaigner Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull, also known as Posie Parker.
Neo-Nazis joined a group of anti-transgender protesters and frequently gave the Nazi salute.
After the party meeting, Pesutto stated, “I’m worried about any member of my team having any kind of connection with (Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull) and these shared platforms.
The motion also states that Deeming’s expulsion is being sought as a result of her post-rally meeting and publication of a film with activist Angie Jones, former NSW Liberal candidate Katherine Deeves, and Keen-Minshull.
After white nationalists seized control of a far-right demonstration on the State House steps, the Victorian government will take the Nazi salute into consideration for prohibition.
Also receiving harsh condemnation is Victoria Police’s performance, which has declined to explain why the Neo Nazis were not detained.
“On that day, Angie Jones tweeted phrases that any unbiased observer would have associated with Nazis, such as the phrase “Nazis and women want to get free of paedo filth,” which she posted at 4:41 p.m. How about you?” The proposal is partially stated.
The MP for the Western Metropolitan Region promised to oppose the “unjust” attempt to have her removed right away.
“Let me be crystal clear: I did nothing wrong. She stated in a written statement on March 22 that the people who organised the Let Women Speak gathering over the weekend had done nothing wrong.
