After a tense 10-hour standoff with police at a residence in northern Queensland, a man was discovered dead. As a result, police issued a warning to the neighborhood’s residents to stay inside and lock their doors.
About 7.30 am today, police announced that a 50-year-old male had been discovered deceased at a residence on Elphinstone Road in Kirwan, close to Townsville.
When police arrived at the house yesterday around 8 p.m. in response to “reports of a disturbance,” the man had barricaded himself inside.
According to reports, the man shot several times, striking nearby homes, a car, and police cruisers.
Police asked those outside the exclusion zone to stay there as well, including keeping any landed aircraft, and instructed residents inside the exclusion zone to stay inside with their doors locked.
All through the night, police negotiators were on the scene trying to calm things down.
By 6.45 am, police entered the house and discovered the man had died.
In addition to reviewing the incident, the Ethical Standards Command will prepare a report for the coroner.
No additional people suffered physical harm as a result of the incident.
