A young Palestinian man was shot by Israeli soldiers and murdered in the southern part of the occupied West Bank.
Mohammad Jawabreh, 22, was shot in the head during altercations at the Arroub refugee camp north of Hebron on Thursday afternoon. According to local medical personnel, he passed away from his injuries on Friday just before dawn.
He arrived at the city’s al-Ahli hospital and was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit, where he died.
Jawabreh served as a policeman for the Palestinian Authority (PA) in Bethlehem. According to a statement from Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie, he was also a first-year media technology student there.

The first two months of 2023 are the bloodiest for Palestinians compared to the same period since 2000, with Israeli troops having killed 65 Palestinians, including 13 children, this year so far and injured hundreds more.

Armed factions in the impoverished Gaza Strip fired missiles at Israel late on Wednesday in retaliation for the Israeli army raid in Nablus and threatened a larger escalation.
All facets of daily life came to an end on Thursday as a general strike swept the entire 1967-occupied Palestinian region of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. Conflicts broke out in a number of the occupied West Bank’s cities, villages, and refugee camps.
At midnight (22:00 GMT) on Thursday, the Nablus-based Lions’ Den armed group, whose members were attacked during the Israeli raid, called on men throughout the occupied Palestinian territory to protest. After Friday prayers, Palestinians marched through Hebron to mark the 29th anniversary of the Ibrahimi Mosque Massacre, which took place in 1994 and resulted in the deaths of 29 Palestinians and more than 100 injuries. An Israeli-American settler opened fire inside the mosque during drawn prayers.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry on Friday afternoon, Israeli forces engaged in altercations that resulted in at least three Palestinians being hurt in the Bab al-Zawiya neighborhood of Hebron’s Old City.
According to the ministry, two of the guys suffered just minor injuries from rubber-coated bullets and sound grenades, while the other man is in critical condition after being struck in the head.

Also, it was the third significant Israeli operation in the West Bank since the beginning of the year and under Israel’s newly sworn-in, far-right administration.
Along with the nearly daily killings of Palestinians that have continued for more than a year, the new governing coalition led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been acting unilaterally. Examples include announcing significant projects to expand illegal settlements, increasing the number of Palestinian homes demolished, and enacting collective punishments against Palestinian prisoners. All of these actions raise the possibility of a volatile situation developing on the ground.
