According to an election promise put forth by the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government, residents will soon be able to renew their prescriptions for the contraceptive pill at their neighborhood drugstore.
Bypassing general practitioners for routine prescriptions like the contraceptive pill and generic antibiotics for free during a 12-month trial period would be made possible by the change.
The idea, according to Premier Dominic Perrottet, will “change healthcare,” enabling patients to make appointments online or visit their neighborhood drugstore to receive the assistance they require.
In accordance with our drugstore plan, the government would pay the patient consultation fee for UTI treatment and tablet contraception.
Additionally, it will see pharmacists recommending UTI therapy.
Perrottet stated, “This is about making it quicker and simpler for patients to get critical prescription medications and treatments.
“People who need to access a variety of medicines and treatments will benefit greatly from these improvements because it’s more difficult than ever to acquire an appointment with a general practitioner.
The experiment will “substantially increase” access to timely healthcare, according to Chelsea Felkai, president of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s (PSA) NSW chapter.
Pharmacists are in a good position to provide prompt, high-quality care to NSW patients with non-complicated urinary tract infections, according to Felkai.
If the Perrottet administration wins the state election next month, the plan will take effect in July.
