After at least 69 people were murdered in the terrible plane accident in western Nepal overnight, the Albanesian government is “urgently seeking information” regarding the verified Australian on board.
Australian passenger on board the fatal jet crash in western Nepal has not yet been legally recognized, according to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
At least 69 passengers were killed when the plane, which was departing from Kathmandu, crashed on Sunday (local time) in poor weather near Pokhara’s international airport.
Mr. Albanese claimed that the Australian passenger’s welfare was a matter for which the Labor government was “urgently seeking information.”
On Monday, he said to Twitter, “Incredibly tragic news out of Nepal of a plane crashing with many passengers on board.
The government is urgently requesting information from Nepalese officials on the welfare of the Australian traveller.
Jim Chalmers, the treasurer, confirmed that the victim’s family was receiving support but he did not go into further detail.
During a press conference on Monday, he remarked, “Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal.”
As you are aware, there was an Australian on board, and DFAT is offering the family consular help.
“I’m not in a position to give you any additional information beyond that, but they will be shared when they become available,” she said.
Initial reports indicate that the twin-engine Yeti Airlines ATR 72 aircraft, which was carrying 72 people, fragmented upon impact.
Hundreds of rescuers rushed to the scene in an effort to find survivors, but the collision claimed almost all lives.
After it got dark on Sunday, search operations were suspended; however, on Monday, rescue personnel will resume their search for the three unaccounted-for victims.
Following the terrible catastrophe, Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal convened an emergency Cabinet meeting.
The decision was made to look into the disaster’s cause, which is anticipated to be discovered in the following 45 days.
The Prime Minister expressed his sympathies to the victims and their families, expressing his “great sadness” over the unfortunate event.
He wrote on Twitter, “I respectfully ask to the security personnel, the government agencies in Nepal, and the general public to launch an effective rescue.”
The deadly occurrence makes the plane accident in Nepal the deadliest in thirty years.
In the wake of the disaster, Yeti Airlines has canceled all regular flights for Monday (local time), while emergency and rescue flights will still take place.
The airline announced in a statement that “all scheduled flights for the 16th January 2023 have been cancelled in remembrance of the passengers who lost their lives in the accident of Yeti Airlines.”
Emergency and rescue flights will resume, though.
Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority revealed that of the 72 passengers, four were crew members, two were babies, and 15 were foreign nationals.
Five were from India, four from Russia, two from Korea, one each from Ireland, Australia, Argentina, and France, and four others were from Russia, Russia, and more Russia.
The remaining 53 passengers were all from Nepal.
