The Kremlin reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed Benjamin Netanyahu’s return as leader of the most far-right Israeli cabinet in history and expressed a desire to deepen bilateral ties.
According to a statement on Thursday, Putin wrote to Netanyahu, “I hope that the new administration under your leadership will continue the line of developing Russian-Israeli cooperation in all sectors for the benefit of our peoples, in the interest of guaranteeing peace and security in the Middle East.”
Putin stated, “In Russia, we really appreciate your personal and sustained dedication to fostering cordial ties between our countries.
On Thursday, just after Israel’s parliament gave his new cabinet a vote of confidence, Netanyahu, 73, took the oath of office.
Israel took a cautious stance toward Moscow when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February, attempting to uphold its neutrality.
Since more than a million people from the former Soviet Union now call Israel home, Israel has emphasized the unique ties between the two countries.
In order to “clean up the situation in the Middle East and the world stage in general,” the foreign ministry of Russia stated that it was “ready for constructive collaboration” with Israel.
On Twitter, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, also wished Benjamin Netanyahu “success on the journey to the welfare & security of Israel.”
Ukraine is “ready for close cooperation to expand our relations and fight common difficulties, achieve prosperity, and triumph over evil,” he said in reference to it.
Zelenskyy has repeatedly asked Israel to provide Ukraine with armaments, but they have not.
In a statement on Thursday, US President Joe Biden referred to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “friend for decades” and expressed his desire to collaborate with him “to jointly address the many challenges and opportunities facing Israel and the Middle East region, including threats from Iran.”
The US will “continue to support the two-state solution and to oppose initiatives that jeopardize its viability or violate our mutual interests and values,” though, Biden cautioned.
