The federal election in Australia is going to be held on May 21. This is the first time in the 6-decade history of Bangladeshis living in Australia that a woman of Bangladeshi descent has made history by participating in the national elections.

Sajeda Akhtar Sanjida contested the local city corporation elections this year as a Liberal Party candidate and was elected councilor by a large number of votes.

Sajeda Akhter will run in the next federal election as a candidate of the ruling Liberal Party. For the first time in the country’s eight-year history, a Muslim woman wearing the hijab has been nominated.

Sajeda Akhtar is contesting from Watson Electoral Division in the state of New South Wales. He will have to fight with Tony Burke, the leader of the opposition Gendarmerie. He was the immigration minister in the Labor Party government and has been elected to parliament five times from that constituency. The area is known as the base of the Labor Party. In this case, Sajeda will have to face a difficult challenge in the election.

Sajeda Akhter Sanjida is contesting from the same constituency where her husband Shah Zaman Titu, a former councilor, was elected in 2016 and 2019.

Sajeda Akter Sanjida is an accepted organizer of the community, she is everyone’s favorite face. He has been working for the community for a long time on behalf of several Bangladeshi organizations. Notable among the organizations are Women’s Council, Fagun Hawa, Bangladesh Australia Fashion Association, Australia Bangladesh Business Council and Save the Women. He is the general secretary of the Lakemba branch of the Liberal Party.
