Ukrainian refugees fleeing war-torn country rejoice in reunion with loved ones. An emotional scene was seen at Sydney and Melbourne airports in Australia yesterday.

At the Sydney airport, Alex Soroka reunited with his father, mother, sister, niece and nephew, saying: ‘I am very happy and grateful to the Australian Government. They issued visas so quickly and thank you very much for your help in helping the Ukrainians. ”

Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke confirmed on Friday that the federal government had issued “more than 3,000 humanitarian visas” to Ukrainians since February 23 as part of an international response to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.

These visas were granted after a meeting with Ukrainian Australians.

Immigration Minister Alex Hawke has said that visas for Ukrainian citizens in Australia are due to expire on June 30 but will be extended by six months.

He said in a statement that the Australian government was ready to assist Ukrainians through the temporary and permanent immigration process.

He added that humanitarian assistance has been provided to civilians in Ukraine and further assistance is being considered.
