A U.S. journalist named Brent Rand has been shot dead in Irpin, a town near the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, police say. Another journalist was also injured in the incident.

This is the first time a foreign journalist has been killed since Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine.
Kiev’s police chief, Andrei Nebitov, said Russian troops had shot at the journalist. Two more journalists were injured in the incident. They have been admitted to the hospital.
Danilo Shapovalov, a surgeon for Ukraine’s regional defense, told AFP the American journalist had been killed on the spot. He is serving another.
AFP reporters found the body of the slain journalist, the report said.
Meanwhile, the press ID that the slain journalist Brent Rand had was that of the New York Times. The New York Times issued a statement after the news broke. The New York Times said in a statement that Rand was not working for them in Ukraine. He last worked for the New York Times in 2015.
According to a report in The Independent, Brent works as a journalist in Iraq, Afghanistan, Haiti, and the United States. In addition to video journalism, he also worked in documentary films. Brent received the “Peabody Award” in the United States.
