The police in Adelaide’s north-west are trying to determine if the guy whose body was discovered in a burning house was murdered and then the house was set on fire to cover up the evidence.
First responders discovered 72-year-old Bill Frangos’s lifeless body inside his Woodville Gardens home on Essex Street early yesterday morning.
A bystander spotted “an orange glow emanating from inside the premises” and contacted the police and emergency services, who responded to the scene.
A dog was discovered in the backyard unharmed, however the house suffered significant fire damage.
“We are satisfied Bill was murdered and the house was set on fire to deliberately destroy evidence related to that murder,” South Australia Police major crime acting chief inspector Matthew Fitzpatrick stated.
Earlier today, detectives combed through two residences and dismantled devices discovered within.
According to the police, they seized cannabis cultivation tools as part of their investigation.
“There is some information that cannabis was used in respect to this incident,” he added.
According to Frangos’s neighbours, he had lived at the house for almost 40 years with a protective and devoted dog that was heard barking nonstop the night before he passed away.
“He was barking really viciously and it was going for a long time, pretty much all night, every time I woke up I could,” according to a neighbour.
Frangos frequently strolled the neighbourhood accompanied by his faithful cat.
Despite the fact that Bill’s home and the residence next door were both raided by detectives and police, no one has been arrested.
“We believe the people or persons responsible may have been known to Bill,” he added.
