Police in Melbourne’s central business district are looking into a man’s shooting wound that was discovered overnight.
At around 3:30 in the morning, police discovered the lifeless body of a 26-year-old male from Cairnlea near the Spencer and Lonsdale street intersection.
He was sent to the hospital after receiving treatment from paramedics for a wound to the upper torso. His injuries were severe.
He is now in a stable condition after surgery and is still at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Just before 3 in the morning, residents of the West Side Place buildings on Little Lonsdale Street heard a boisterous argument between a number of people, both male and female, and then they heard two gunshots.
The first gun went off, and then everybody began screaming, according to Ryan, a local.
That was it.
Then, all of a sudden, it seemed like they were fighting, and then there was another gunshot.
“I heard loud bangs, I don’t know if it was multiple people but yeah it was quite intense,” a another person stated.
While they have not yet interviewed the victim, detectives will have access to surveillance footage from the nearby Ritz-Carlton and other high-end buildings that have armed security guards on duty around the clock.
At the moment of the incident, numerous vehicles were parked along Little Lonsdale Street.
Forensic officers spent the day inspecting and fingerprinting each one.
The police are currently investigating to determine if there was any prior acquaintanceship between the shooter and the victim.
