The Bureau of Meteorology has warned that an unwarranted barrage of storms, hail, and powerful winds is expected to hit Australia’s southeast cities.
With the weather systems moving across the southeast expected to have an influence, a strong burst of warm weather is expected to shatter temperature records across the nation.
Some areas of central Victoria, Melbourne, and NSW should prepare for “severe” thunderstorms, according to senior meteorologist Miriam Bradbury, who spoke with Weekend Today.
“We are going to see severe thunderstorms likely through much of central inland Victoria, possibly reaching those northern suburbs of Melbourne,” Bradbury stated.
However, it will also spread to sections of the Riverina and southern NSW.
It is now possible to experience widespread destructive winds, huge hail, and heavy rainfall in those areas hit by severe thunderstorms.”
According to Bradbury, when the weather system sweeps throughout the southeast, the places most affected by it would be most at risk from the strong winds.
“Winds of that strength with thunderstorms can bring down trees and powerlines, leading to dangerous driving conditions, possibly even power outages,” she stated.
“So if you live anywhere in Victoria, but also anywhere in south-east South Australia and southern NSW, be aware of this storm risk today.”
The week is likely to bring more wild weather, with Tuesday predicted to be an exceptionally windy day.
Bradbury issues a warning that strong winds are expected in the southeast states following the easing of storms on Sunday night.
“On Tuesday they’re likely to be much, much more widespread across the southeast states.”
