Following a car crash into a tree in the Hunter region of New South Wales, a teenage kid has died and another, a driver with L-plates, has allegedly returned a positive breath test result.
About 10.45 p.m. yesterday, according to the police, a white Ford Falcon sedan containing four boys and one girl, ages 14 to 17, swerved off Lemon Tree Passage Road in Salt Ash, close to Port Stephens.
On the way to the hospital, a sixteen-year-old boy passed away in spite of the efforts of emergency services.
“At a press conference today, Inspector Fatih Samsa stated that the family has been given some of the worst news they could have received.”
“Even one death on our roads is one death too many.”
The other three passengers had several non-life-threatening injuries, so they were sent to John Hunter Hospital.
According to police, a roadside breath test was administered to the 17-year-old driver of the sedan with a learner’s license, and the results purportedly showed a positive reading.
He was brought to the hospital for required examinations.
