According to Mark News, one of the two adolescent females detained in connection with a fatal collision involving a purportedly stolen automobile in Melbourne’s inner-east was released on bond.
The two were involved in an apparent theft of a jeep that was being driven by six young people when it collided with a Toyota hatchback yesterday evening at the crossroads of Warrigal and Highbury in Burwood.
The driver of the hatch, an Ashburton man of 28 years old, was killed in the crash.
Four male teenagers fled on foot and were apprehended at the spot, leaving two girls behind.
One of the girls was out on bond for various offences, according to Mark News, and the trio is thought to be connected to a four-day spree of crimes in Melbourne’s southeast.
Detective Senior Sergeant Christian Von Tunk declared that leaving the scene knowing that someone might have been hurt or killed was a cowardly move.
“It had a huge influence. Von Tunk stated, “It was a high impact, high speed impact.”
“They know someone would have been hurt in that vehicle.”
Mark News was informed by witnesses that the victim’s vehicle swerved through the junction and struck a brick fence belonging to a resident.
“They got him out of the car, put him on the lawn tried to revive him but obviously they were unsuccessful,” Peter, a neighbour, said.
Mark News was informed by another witness that he was travelling with his wife for ice cream and was barely a few seconds behind the Toyota.
“It just could have been me, I was preparing to turn right into Warragul Road waiting for the lights and then an explosion happened,” said the man.
The two teenage girls were prevented from fleeing by the man.
“I grabbed one of the females and she threatened to bash me if I didn’t let her go, and I kept telling her, ‘You’ve just killed somebody, you’ve just killed somebody’,” claimed the man.
Under police escort, the girls were brought to the hospital. They are being questioned at the moment.
It was discovered that the four young people who ran away through Burwood Reserve had thrown away several items, including gloves.
Police are asking anyone who finds strange objects in the parklands, such as clothing or weapons, to get in touch with them.
The Jeep Cherokee was taken on Friday in Cranbourne South during an aggravated burglary.
The group is reportedly connected to an armed robbery that occurred on Sunday night at a milk bar in Ormond.
Prior to snatching cigarettes, the staff was allegedly threatened with machetes by the group.
The same group allegedly ransacked a Ripponlea grocery store less than an hour later.
The Jeep Cherokee’s owner told that he is now too afraid to be in his own house after the incident.
“It’s just a super sad situation for everyone involved, hopefully these people get caught,” he stated.
