Teens who attacked the family of a rugby legend in a “war zone” escaped conviction

প্রকাশের তারিখঃ

Two adolescents have been punished for attacking a former Wallabies player and his family in a manner akin to a “war zone” assault of their home.

In the early hours of August 16, 2021, the boys, who were 15 years old at the time, broke into Toutai Kefu’s home in the Coorparoo area of Brisbane.

They were armed with knives and a sickle.

In the ensuing altercation, Mr. Kefu was stabbed 25 mm in the liver, and his wife Rachel was hacked to pieces by the sickle.

As he attempted to step in, their daughter Madison was hurt, and their son Joshua was also cut.

The Brisbane Supreme Court was informed that Mrs. Kefu continues to experience residual disability and mental health concerns as a result of the attack.

At the sentencing on Thursday, Justice Peter Davis stated, “Police took photographs of the scene… they showed blood splashed and smeared in substantial quantities on the floor and on the walls.”

It resembles a war zone, to put it mildly.

“But we know that it is a result of your violent invasion and attack upon the occupants of a family home in a quiet Brisbane suburban street.”

The boys were inside the house when Mrs. Kefu heard the sound of automobile doors at three in the morning, according to testimony given to the court.

Screams awakened Mr. Kefu, who motioned for the youths to go while pointing to a dish of car keys.

The court had been informed that during the ensuing altercation, Mr. Kefu charged at the inebriated 15-year-olds using a bar stool.

Ben Cannon, a neighbor, helped the family by tackling one of the teenagers and holding him down until the police could arrive.

The guys, who aren’t allowed to be named for legal reasons, had already entered a guilty plea to counts of purposely causing great bodily harm in connection with the home invasion and the automobile theft that same morning from another property.

Eight years in prison were imposed on one boy and seven years on the other.

According to Judge Davis, they cannot be released until they have completed half of their sentences.

Due to time served, one youngster is scheduled for early release in 2019.
