Anthony Albanese, the Prime Minister, has partnered with the Salvation Army to collect money for struggling Australians.
Every 17 seconds, the Salvation Army helps people in the community by giving them food, clothing, emergency housing, and support for family violence victims in Australia.
The nation’s highest official has joined the charity’s efforts to raise $38 million for the Red Shield Appeal this year.
“There’s always someone worse off than yourself, my mother used to say. She was always willing to lend a hand, as mothers often say,” Albanese remarked.
“You know that the Salvos value every dollar and will make a difference to the people who are receiving it.”
The organization conducted a survey recently, and the results starkly illustrated the 1500 participants’ cost of living dilemma.
Sixty-one percent claimed they could not afford eye, dental, or medical care, and forty-three percent said they could not afford heating or cooling.
A staggering 69% of respondents claimed to have skipped meals so their kids could eat.
Kim Haworth, a state commander for the Salvation Army, noted that the organization offered both material and psychological support.
“Yes we provide good professional services but we also provide community, we also provide people to walk alongside and to take the journey and that makes all the difference,” Haworth stated.
For over 60 years, The Salvation Army has been in operation.
