Today, an eight-year-old Adelaide boy who is fighting a severe form of terminal cancer realized his ambition of working as a SA Police officer.
In January 2022, Andrews Farm resident Sam Scully received a brain tumor diagnosis and was given an only 18 months to live.
Today, “Sergeant Scully” set out on his big day with SA top cop Grant Stevens, accompanied by his family and students.
To the pleasure of his enthusiastic classmates, his voyage started when he was picked up by the police helicopter from Angle Vale Primary School.
Sam met some of the state’s police dogs when he landed at Adelaide Oval and then proceeded to Rundle Mall to track down a few well-known thieves.
Hundreds of South Australians turned out to watch the petite cop in action, expressing their support and admiration for his unwavering determination.
Sam was encouraged to “keep fighting, keeping smiling” by Crows ruckman Reilly O’Brien.
Allison Harrison, Sam’s mother, expressed her gratitude to everyone who helped make the day possible and her immense pride in her son.
“I’m just proud of how he’s taken everything in his stride,” she continued.
“He is my role model. “I don’t know how to repay anyone or show my gratitude anymore than his smile.”
