The asbestos crisis in Melbourne has grown as a result of the discovery that three brand-new parks in the west of the city are polluted.
The Environmental Protection Agency has come under fire for allegedly contradicting itself after identifying three more parks in Altona North after stating that the asbestos was isolated.
Today, EPA inspectors were observed going piece by piece through mulch, examining anything questionable, and then bagging it for examination.
There are now four poisonous parks in the vicinity. It is known which reserves are Croffs Reserve, P. J. Lynch Reserve, and G. J. Hoskin Reserve.
A mother from the area named Alison Gibbons called the state of affairs “very worrying”.
According to experts, the sector is mainly uncontrolled. According to GMA Asbestos’ Steve Marett, “anyone can buy an excavator and start processing material and selling it as second-hand, recycled mulch.”
Since asbestos and hazardous construction materials were discovered in this Spotswood playground earlier this week, neither the EPA nor the council have consented to an on-camera interview.
Just hours after the EPA classified Spotswood as an isolated event, the other parks were found to be poisoned, which was an unpleasant development for the environmental authority.
There are still questions about where the mulch comes from and how many additional parks might be affected by asbestos contamination.
