In Sydney’s Inner West, a 29-year-old motorcycle rider lost his life in an accident that happened after a police pursuit.
When an officer tried to halt the rider on Arthur Street in Strathfield at approximately 2:30 pm, the rider refused to stop, according to the police, and that’s when the pursuit started.
A short while later, the rider of the motorbike allegedly lost control while trying to pass a Toyota Corolla, clipped the car, and smashed into a power pole.
The male cyclist was tended to by officers until paramedics could come, but he passed away there.
Notifications were being sent to the man’s nearest of kin, according to Acting Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland.
“The rider was recognized while heading west on the M4. When he turned onto Arthur Street, the police didn’t start pursuing him,” Holland stated at a press conference.
Holland stated that it will be up to the investigators to ascertain the rider’s speed as he was unable to say.
According to witnesses, the rider quickly flew off the bike.
“It felt like something hit a pole with a “boom.” That kind of cacophony,” Tul Sisah stated.
“With lights and sirens, there is a police pursuit. The siren was turned off not long after I heard the boom.”
Arthur Street has been closed between Henley Street and Hornsey Road due to a major event and a crime scene.
The region is advised to be avoided by drivers.
According to police, the critical incident investigation team has started an investigation that will be reviewed by an impartial party.
