In a collision involving two vehicles in Perth’s northeast, a man and a woman have died.
Around 5.10 a.m. today, authorities reported that a silver Jeep Cherokee station wagon and a white Toyota Camry crashed on Muchea East Road close to Polinelli Road in Lower Chittering.
“While other people are waking up with a sense of excitement in anticipation this Easter long weekend, we’ve got families just north of Perth waking up to a very different scenario,” Adrian Warner, the commissioner for road safety, said.
A 54-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman driver perished at the scene. The crash did not involve any other persons.
Police, who are already prepared for a busy long weekend on the highways, are devastated by the tragedy.
Police Commander Mike Bell stated, “I was here just a day ago, reminding people of the Easter campaign and road safety.”
“When we have these fatals, it’s not only the victim we mourn for but it’s the family.”
All drivers are urged to slow down by Premier Roger Cook.
Just be extra cautious this weekend, please.
“That extra ten minutes to reach your destination could mean the difference between a fun weekend and accidents or fatalities,” he warned.
Warner repeated the driver’s admonition from the prime.
“There is going to be many, many more cars on the road than normal, it’s going to take you long so we need to control our choices.”
