South The harshest child sex laws in the nation are about to be implemented in Australia, which means that the worst pedophiles in the state might spend the rest of their lives behind bars.
According to the proposed laws, repeat offenders would be subject to electronic surveillance and would only be freed if the court was convinced that they could manage their sexual instincts.
The law would only be applicable to individuals who had served two prison terms for child sex offenses.
With backing from the opposition, SA Attorney General Kyam Maher introduced the bill to parliament this afternoon.
“If you are a vile monster who prays on children you will now be facing the harshest penalties in this country,” Maher stated.
“If you commit these sorts of crimes against children you should be taken off the street for the longest possible period the rest of your natural life so you can’t do this to other children.”
The Carly Ryan Foundation’s founder, Sonya Ryan, expressed her satisfaction with the tangible steps being made to safeguard the community’s most susceptible members.
“They pose a real threat to our children they are opportunistic offenders so they need to be managed appropriately,” Ryan stated.
The administration expressed confidence that the measures would be passed and put into effect later this year.
Two months after the administration declared it would expedite the legislation in an effort to target significant repeat offenders, the legislation was introduced.
