The identity of the Australian-born woman who was killed together with her spouse in a landslip in a village on the Indonesian island of Bali following intense rain has been revealed.
When the landslip swept down, Dutch native Luciano Kross, 50, and his partner, 47-year-old American Angelina Smith, were inside a property in Jatiluwih hamlet.
After the tragedy on Thursday morning, their remains were found among the wreckage.
“The victims were taken out of the rubble while they were still asleep. An official from the local disaster mitigation agency, I Nyoman Srinadha Giri, told news agency AFP that there were two victims—a man and a woman—in one bed.
The Department of Foreign Affairs acknowledged the event and said it was helping the family.
In a statement, a DFAT representative said, “We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time.”
“Owing to our privacy obligations we are unable to provide further comment.”
According to AFP, both remains were brought to a hospital in Denpasar.
Smith, who was reportedly in Australia as recently as December, was thought to have been born in Melbourne, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
